Running from 9-12 January, some of the brightest young students will be bringing their ideas to the capital in the hope of being crowned the BT Young Scientist of the Year 2019. In total there will be 550 projects for you to marvel over and they will fall into one of four categories, which include technology and social and behavioural sciences. EXPLORE the creative mind of Fermanagh photographer Ciarán May by wandering through his amazing exhibition on display at Fermanagh Genealogy Centre in Enniskillen Castle. Titled, When the Wind Blows, A Decade of Fermanagh Photographs from the Kite, the photographic showcase is running until 19 January, granting you the opportunity to discover the magic of Ciarán’s work. For almost a decade, he has been capturing the mystic beauty of his homeland and has used an array of methods to achieve this, which include using a kite to lift his camera into the sky to capture a bird’s eye view. CELEBRATE world half marathon day and run, jog, walk or crawl 13.1 miles on 13 January in Co Mayo. Regardless of fitness level, this event caters to everyone as you can complete the route at your own pace, whatever that may be. The event, which is taking place in Belleek, Ballina, is run on a looped course of 1.65 miles, which means that you will have to complete a total of eight laps to achieve the half marathon distance. LEARN more about “the premier county” by coming along to the fourth instalment of the lecture series, Tipperary Places & People, on 15 January at The Source Library, Thurles at 7.30pm. This lecture will be led by Dr Denis G. Marnane, who has been involved in historical research for more than four decades and is currently editor of the County Tipperary Historical Journal.
