As always, the Irish Charolais Cattle Society will have the cream of their breed on the display at this year’s National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore.
The society’s national show champions along with prize winners from summer shows around the country all year will represent the breed on its stand. As well as this, there will be a showcase of top-quality commercial Charolais cattle on view with over 30 Charolais cattle expected on the stand in total.
Raffle
Last year, the society held a raffle for the pedigree Charolais heifer, Lisnagre Libby. This heifer was kindly donated by Jim and Catherine Geoghean from Streamstown, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, in loving memory of their grandson, Conor Green.
Libby ended up rising over €17,000, with all proceeds going directly to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. This year there will be a raffle for a top-class commercial Charolais heifer, with all proceeds going directly to the Irish Cancer Society.
The Annual Charolais Yearbook is always released in conjunction with the Ploughing Championships and this year is no different.
This year’s yearbook will be bigger than ever, packed with news on past and upcoming events within the Charolais breed. Representatives from the Irish Charolais Cattle Society including breeders, council members and staff will be there to meet and greet all those passing through.
Information on upcoming autumn shows and sales of pedigree Charolais cattle will be readily available.
The first ICCS autumn show and sale will take place in Tullamore mart, Co Offaly, on Saturday 4 November, consisting of males only.
This will be followed by the first ever Elite Heifer show and sale which will take place in Tullamore mart on Saturday 11 November. It is expected that this sale will see some of Ireland’s top-quality pedigree Charolais heifer’s go under the hammer.
The final show and sale of the year is always the Christmas cracker show and sale, which this year will take place on Saturday 2 December.
