The apps are available at www.farmersjournal.ie/toolbox.
An easy to use Fodder App was displayed at the event, which allows a farmer to accurately calculate the volume of silage required, based on the number and type of stock and the length they will be fed over the winter period.
The app also allows the farmer to input their silage stocks, in terms of the number of silage bales or the size of the silage clamp/s on the farm. The app will then calculate if the farmer has a surplus or deficit.

Where the farmer has more than 50% of the fodder requirement for the winter, the app will suggest the volume of additional fodder or concentrates required over the winter period.
Where the shortfall is greater than 50%, the app calculates the volume of additional fodder and concentrates required for the proposed number of stock.
The www.farmersjournal.ie/toolbox also contains other simple calculators such as a mart budget calculator, replacement heifer weight calculator and factory price calculator.
