The IFA has ended its protests at Portlaoise and Clonroche Glanbia mills, having agreed a deal with Glanbia over grain prices.

The price of feed barley has been increased by €3 to €144/t. The price of feed wheat has been increased by €5 to €153/t and the price of contracted Cassia winter barley has also gone up by €3.

On foot of these price increase, the protest which lasted a week has now ended.

The base price remaines unchanged, with the extra payment going on top.

One of the IFA’s main issues that led to the protest was that the base price of €128/t was too low and not reflective of the market.

Glanbia comment

Glanbia said that it recognises the loyalty of its grain suppliers with an extra payment of €3/t on feed wheat and feed barley. This also includes contracted winter Cassia barley, supplied by its co-op members.

The Glanbia member price per tonne for green barley will be €144/t, including €3/t co-op support and a €10/t trading bonus.

Glanbia Ireland has increased the differential between wheat and barley from €7 to €9/t on members’ feed grains and feed wheat will now be €153/t.

Non-Glanbia Co-op shareholders, will also receive €1/t on green feed wheat and feed barley supplied as a recognition of supplier loyalty, which will be linked to the level of input purchases bought from Glanbia Ireland.

Non-members will also benefit from the increased differential between wheat and barley.
