Grant Thornton has been awarded contracts to investigate areas of concern for farmers in the beef sector by the Department of Agriculture.
Under the Irish beef sector agreement, struck on 15 September 2019 after weeks of farmer protests, it was agreed there would be three independent investigations undertaken.
Grant Thornton will carry out a review of market and customer requirements in relation to the four in-spec bonus criteria – the 30-month age limit, the 70-day residency requirement, the four-movement rule and quality assurance.
The firm will examine the price competition of the total value of a beef animal, including the fifth quarter, along the supply chain.
Finally, Grant Thornton will summarise all competition law relevant to the Irish beef sector.
