Most lots on offer at the dispersal sale of the suckler herd of Peter Jordan in Clogher Mart on Thursday evening of last week achieved relatively strong prices.

The majority of cows on show were in calf to a Charolais bull and due to calve down from last weekend onwards. The cows were a range of breeds and ages, with 22 lots sold at an average price of £1,208.

Top price in-calf cow was the first one in the ring, an April 2009-born Charalois-cross cow that made £1,555. Also making good prices were a July 2008-born Limousin cow that made £1,410 and a May 2009-born Charolais registered cow that made £1,450.

At the beginning of the sale, a few cows with young calves at foot were sold.

A September 2009-born Limousin cow and her Charolais bull calf made £1,705. An October 2013-born Limousin heifer and her Limousin heifer calf made £1,100.

Towards the end of the sale, demand from bidders significantly reduced for in-calf heifers.

Of the nine lots on show, five were sold at an average price of £1,131, with the remaining four heifers passed.

The heifers were due to calve down from March to a Limousin bull and were a range of ages from two- to three-year-olds.

The highest price was £1,310 paid for a July 2013-born Limousin heifer.
