The Irish Field, GAIN Equine Nutrition and leading figures in the Irish equine industry gathered on Monday to acknowledge the outstanding performances of Irish riders during 2017, in the K Club in Kildare.
Commenting on the event, Irish Horse World editor Isabel Hurley said: “2017 was a landmark year for Ireland on the international equine scene, with both our senior and pony riders winning team gold at the European Championships. Today’s awards showcase all that is excellent in the Irish sport horse industry.”
Contribution to the sport

Our own, Michael Slavin was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the sport.
Michael began a career as an equestrian journalist and commentator in the late-1960s, and he has written for The Irish Field, Irish Farmers Journal, Horse and Hound plus other equine publications in six countries.
He acted as RTE Radio’s Show Jumping and Eventing commentator for 20 years and has written books which include Irish Show Jumping Legends 1868-1998; The Ancient Books of Ireland and The Book of Tara.
