Athy-based Denis Doyle Ltd launched the firm’s new Tornado range of trailed disc harrows at Lamma last week. Best known for its air seeders and tracked solar equipment, Doyle has been working on the concept for two years now. With plans in place to build mounted disc harrows in time to come, Doyle is initially launching 4m, 5m and 6m variants.
The discs come fully loaded, as standard, including hydraulic depth control on the move. The standard spec also includes a row of paddles, mounted in front of the leading discs. The unit is kitted out with 5mm, 560mm discs, which are mounted on maintenance-free SKF hubs with triple seals. The discs themselves are carried on cast steel disc arms. Doyle said it offers a working depth of 35-120mm. The disc is fitted with an in-house designed DD hardox packer roller. Doyle has opted for a 50mm steel housing on the roller bearing, instead of a cast housing for high impact loading.
On the road, the body of the disc harrow folds to 2.5m (8.2ft), while the transport width at the wheels is 2.95m (9.68ft). The machine is shod on 560-45-22.5 tyres. The yellow colour scheme is finished in a powder coat, while the machines come with a platform for air seeders.
