Joystick steering isn’t new, but is now becoming a widely adopted feature among the majority of wheel loader manufacturers.
Dutch wheel loader manufacturer Giant Tobroco is the latest to jump on the trend, unveiling its joystick steering system on the firm's stand at Agritechnica.
The company explained that the feature has been developed on the back of customer requests.
With the feature, machine operation is carried out via the left armrest of the driver’s seat. This joystick allows the vehicle to be steered left or right.
Additionally, there is a direction switch for easily toggling between forward and reverse.

Giant's new joystick steering system is offered as a factory-installed option and can also be retrofitted.
Three function buttons are also integrated: one for unlocking the bucket locking mechanism, one for operating the windshield wiper and one for activating the horn.
The control module is adjustable, allowing it to be optimally positioned for an ergonomic working posture for every operator. The armrest folds vertically to get in and out of the cab.
The system is based on an electric power steering system that works in series with the hydraulic system.
At low speeds, steering response is direct and precise, as the electric assist supports the hydraulic power steering. At higher speeds, responsiveness gradually decreases, resulting in a heavier steering feel and more stable driving behaviour.
ComfortPilot will be available starting in the first quarter of 2026 for the Giant G2700, G3500, and G5000 models.
It is offered as a factory-installed option and can also be retrofitted as a field kit, thanks to the steering motor being integrated into the steering column, with an estimated cost around €5,000.
