A total of 2,067 new tractors were registered in Ireland during the full 12 months of 2025, making it a positive year for new tractor sales. This represents a market increase of 14% or 250 tractors when compared with 2024, when 1,817 new tractors were registered, according to data from the FTMTA.
During December 2025 a total of 16 new registrations were recorded, 24% less than in 2024, a month when registrations were slightly inflated as result of changes in EU regulation surrounding dual-line brakes, which came into effect at the start of 2025.
The most popular power band for 2025 in Ireland was the 161hp to 200hp category, accounting for 24.43% of all new tractor registrations, up from 22% in 2024. This was followed by the 141hp to 160hp category, which accounted for 22.35% of the total market.
Looking further into the powerbands, the 50hp to 120hp category accounted for 19.21% of the tractor market during 2025, while the 121hp to 140hp category accounted for 17.85%.
Finally, tractors over 200hp accounted for 11.7% of all new tractors sold during 2025.
County Cork once again delivered the highest number of new tractor registrations during 2025 at 295 units, while Tipperary was ranked in second place with 197 units followed by Wexford, at 120 units.
The FTMTA data shows that 239 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in December 2025, 21 more units than in December 2024.
This took the total 2025 used tractor registration figure to 2,971 units, an increase of 7.4% or 204 units when compared with 2024.

UK sales hit pre World War II lows
A total of 541 new tractors were registered in the UK for the month of December, down a significant 31.6% on December 2024. This was the lowest recorded for the time of year since 2016.
The total number of new tractors registered in the UK during 2025 was 8,791 units, down 14.2% on the same period for 2024.
This is the lowest total figure recorded since the AEA began monitoring tractor registrations in the 1960s and what it says is almost certain to be the lowest since before World War II.
Nevertheless, while there has been similarly challenging periods in the past, for example in the late 1990s/early 2000s, the AEA described last year a been one of the most difficult the industry has experienced.
