John Deere has added three new models to its 8R and 8RX series, designed for heavy draft applications and to sit above the current flagship 8R/RX/RT 410 which peaks at 443hp. With rated engine outputs of 440hp, 490hp and 540hp, the trio of models are powered by John Deere’s JD14 13.6l engine.

Maximum powers of the new 8R/RX 440, 8R/RX 490 and 8R/RX are 524hp, 579hp and 634hp (2,695Nm) respectively, the latter claiming to be the world’s most powerful standard design tractor.

Peak Power Intelligent Power Management (PP IPM) provides an additional 40 hp across the main engine speed range down to 1,600 rpm, delivering extra power in demanding applications with high-load PTO and electrically or hydraulically driven implements.

The eAutopowr transmission is standard on all models. The use of an electro-mechanical split-path layout replaces hydrostatic components with electric motor generators, improving energy flow efficiency in the transmission by up to 8%, compared to conventional hydrostatic solutions.

New 8RX models use an updated track system with redesigned undercarriages and low-tension Soucy belts. Depending on configuration, the track system provides a contact area of up to 4.87 m², which can result in ground pressures as low as 0.4 kg/cm², helping minimise soil compaction.

Inside the cab is a a redesigned CommandARM with integrated Convenience Display, allowing operators to recall seat settings and personalise cab comforts ie radio, A/C or phone settings.

The new Heavy-Duty Independent Link Suspension (HD ILS) front axle ensures efficient power transfer and a turning radius of around 7m. The HD ILS features automatic as well as manually adjustable load-based suspension adaptation for improved comfort.

A new Roll Control function automatically adjusts front suspension stiffness when cornering to reduce lean and minimises nose dip under heavy braking. Transport speeds of 60 km/h at 1,440 rpm or 50 km/h at 1,200 rpm are available on wheeled versions.

Cab

The CommandView 4 cab is equipped with a redesigned CommandARM with integrated Convenience Display, allowing operators to recall seat settings and personalise cab comforts ie radio, A/C or phone settings.

Further cab refinements include wireless phone charging, a 330° front wiper, right-hand side door wiper, push-button-start with pin code protection and a soft close door.

The CommandView 4 Plus cab on the new 8RX models offers 15% more legroom and a 20% wider panoramic field of view in comparison to the 8R standard series cab.

Premium and Ultimate seats now include on-screen adjustments with electronic independent forwards/backwards and up/down CommandARM positioning and full-width cushion length control. A top-mounted seatback vent in the Ultimate seat circulates cabin air around the operator.

New models are equipped as standard with a StarFire 7500 receiver, a G5 Plus CommandCenter display and JDLink connectivity.

Through licences, operators can access supervised autonomy features that support consistent work quality and reduce operational mistakes.

Features like AutoPath Rows and Boundaries create guidance plans for the entire field and all seasonal operations, while AutoTrac Turn Automation delivers precise turns in any field shape. Passive Implement Guidance ensures centimetre level accuracy by reducing implement drift, and AutoTrac Implement Guidance In Reverse enables precise manoeuvring of wide implements.

The use of non-position-indicating digital controls means that the 8R/RX high-horsepower tractors are inherently prepared for future retrofit Autonomy components.

Capacities

In terms of capacities, newcomers offer hydraulic flow of up to 418l/min while rear lift capacity tops out at 10.8t. Front linkage maxes out at 4.8t. The Type 4 rear PTO offers 1000, 1000E, and 1300 speeds and up to 548 hp maximum PTO power even in stationary applications.

A 300kW engine brake option is available for smooth deceleration and protection of the main brake. Wheel variants have fuel tank capacities of 936l while tracked models can hold 1,123l.

Along with additional innovations planned for launch throughout 2026, features of the 8 series high-horsepower tractors will soon be offered on the current 8R/RX/RT standard series models.
