On this week’s Young Stock Podcast, Gary Abbott caught up with Mayo native Rob Langan.
With a background in the family’s waste disposal and skip hire business, Rob grew up immersed in machinery and soon developed a passion for mechanics and engineering.
Having originally considered an apprenticeship, Rob later found himself intrigued by the agricultural engineering course at Tralee IT (now MTU) and so put it down as his first choice on his CAO application.
Having enjoyed the course, particularly the practical aspects, Rob later secured placement on the manufacturing line at McHale in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo.
A later opportunity allowed Rob the possibility to secure a summer placement with Claas UK at its headquarters in Saxham in the role of technical support team. Having thoroughly enjoyed the experience, Rob was then offered a full-time position after college.
Irish contingent
Adding to the strong Irish contingent at Claas UK, Rob speaks about his journey and career progression within Claas, what’s involved in the role of a technical manager, the product lines he is responsible for and what his typical day looks like.
Rob advises those interested in a career within the agricultural machinery industry to consider studying the agricultural engineering degree at MTU, noting that it offers endless possibilities within the industry.
