The Irish Aberdeen Angus Association hosted its first spring sale of the year last Thursday in Cashel.
The inaugural sale for the association at the mart attracted a catalogue of 25 bulls, but, similar to many others, on-farm bidding meant this was reduced to 18.
All these 18 bulls were born from early January 2020 to April 2020 and proved in super demand, with all finding new homes.
Along with a 100% clearance rate, sale average settled at an impressive €2,675.
Leading the prices
Leading the prices was the very first animal sold through the ring Sheemore Peadar W576.
This February 2020-born bull was homebred on both sides with Netherton Americano, Rossiter Eric and Bohey Jasper all featuring in the bull’s lineage.
With four stars in the replacement index, Peadar had a beef cow calving figure of just 1.3%.
Bred and exhibited by Paddy Farrell from Carrick-on-Shannon, he was knocked down at €3,150.
Two at the money
The second-highest price of €3,050 was hit on two occasions.
First at the money was Liss Minter W948, which was one of seven bulls offered by Oldcastle breeder John McEnroe.
Sired by the 2019 all-Ireland champion Mogeely Dreamer, he is out of a Bunlahy Bandit-bred dam.
This bull boasted five stars on the terminal index and four stars on the replacement.
Matching the price tag was Matthew Goulding, with his youngest bull on offer Goulding Eamonn W142.
Sired by former stock bull Richhill Blackrock, he is out of an Oakchurch Dirk daughter from the Ester line.
Another five-star bull on the terminal index, this 12-month-old bull heads to work on a local dairy farm.
In total, Goulding sold five bulls to average €2,670.
As mentioned John McEnroe of the Liss herd had seven bulls on offer, which sold for an impressive average of €2,785.
Taking the third-top price of €2,950 was Liss Mirtini W969. This five-star terminal bull was sired by Liss Darl.
A further three Liss bulls hit €2,900. First up was Liss Mylee W957, a son of Gigginstown Rolls Royce; with the second Fordel Ben Maree son, Liss Main Man W981.
Finally, Liss Mr Boyce W992 was the last bull at the price - this one was a son of the aforementioned Liss Darl.
