There were 35 Charolais heifers put forward in the midland and western Charolais club sale on Friday evening 7 November.

In the pre-sale show, Judge Andy McGovern found his champion in Carrowquill Una bred by Dermot Foley, Kilmore, Co Roscommon.

Sired by Lapon out of a Dromiskin Viceroy bred dam, she went on the sell for the second highest price of €7,000. It proved a special occasion for Dermot when he received the Joe Gilfillan memorial cup for winning the overall champion, as Una’s grand-dam came from Joe’s beloved Kilmore Herd.

Noble Violette

Taking the top price on the night of €7,100 was Noble Violette from Harry Noble in Co Longford who was awarded the reserve champion.

Stacked with some of the best bloodlines in the breed, she is sired by the popular french sire Ocean going back to Tamily and Rodin on her mother’s side.

Jim Geoghegan was next best in the prices with his heifer Lisnagre Ulmer ET selling for €5,150. Sired by the French bull Horace JD out of Lisnagre Nice ET, a Pirate daughter who goes back to the great Ballydownan Simone, she sold in-calf to Progressive Genetics’ popular AI sire Lapon.

Coming from the same cow family as Ulmer and selling for €5,100 was Beachview Viva, an October 2024 born heifer sired by Voimo out of Tonyglasson Sexy ET. This four-star replacement heifer was exhibited by Sarah Curran from Co Meath.
