Pat O’Flaherty, who has served as chairman of the committee for four years, announced that as part of elections to the committee he will finish his term at the end of 2016.
Elections to the committee for the 2017/2018 period will be held the week beginning 21 November next. Seven places on the committee have to be filled and all other members must also be re-elected to their positions if they want to continue on the committee.
The IFA’s pig committee is broken in three regions, north, mid and south. Almost 30 farmers sit on the committee.

O’Flaherty said he hoped pig farmers would get involved in the committee to help the sector.
“Pig production is always challenging in Ireland. Being involved with the committee provides farmers with a say in how the industry will develop into the future. I am encouraging all farmers to take part in securing their future,” O’Flaherty concluded.
