Ireland’s anaerobic digestion (AD) sector may be a slow burner, but, at long last, it is beginning to take off. With any new industry, new and specialised roles will be created.
This is the case with Limerick native Íde Hennessy, who works as an environmental compliance officer with Nephin Renewable Gas.
With four large-scale AD plants in the system, Nephin is bidding to become Ireland’s largest developer of projects.
Background
Coming from a beef and poultry farm, Íde studied environmental science at the University of Limerick and completed a master’s degree in sustainable resource management.
Having completed her master’s thesis on barriers to the development of AD in Ireland, she first began work for a Kildare-based AD plant.
She later worked briefly as a senior environmental consultant, primarily on waste-related projects, before joining Nephin Renewable Gas.
In her current role as environmental compliance officer, she is responsible for EPA licensing and compliance across multiple AD facilities in development and construction.
