We farm: “45ac of heavy land in Roslea, Co Fermanagh. Last year the weather suited us as it dried it out.”

Family: “I farm with my wife Gráinne and three children, Alannah, Aoibhin and Daniel.”

Lambing: “We have 50 store lambs. Last year I decided we’d lamb a few ewes so the children could rear lambs. They’re doing it. Lambing started on 9 December. Out of five ewes we’ve had 11 lambs.”

Breeds: “The sheep are Suffolks, crossed with a Charollais ram.”

Sucklers: “I keep 25 suckler cows too. They’re a mix of breeds. We keep the bull calves and finish them at 16 months.”

2018: “A lot of farmers up around here seemed to be struggling with the weather, but they all looked after each other.”

Brexit: “It’s hard to tell how Brexit will affect us. I don’t think it will be as bad as they are saying.”

Young farmers: “The biggest problem is that there are no young farmers, especially in the marts. I don’t think the interest is there, there’s easier ways of living. Maybe there is too much work in for the money you come away with.”
