Eight years on from the Beast from the East and seven years since the gates to the Greenfield Farm in Kilkenny were closed to the public, Teagasc has a new dairy demonstration farm on the books.
As The Dealer announced last year, a new 15-year lease has been signed between Teagasc and ArraTipp to develop a dairy demonstration farm at Solohead in west Tipperary. The farm has been used for dairy research for the last 50 years, so the switch to demonstration is a big deal.
The Dealer hears that fairly significant investment is going into the farm, with a new milking parlour and cow housing planned, and a whole new change in personnel running the farm.
