I see Donald Trump is writing a big cheque for US farmers to try to solve the problem he created for them with his tariff policies.
It does leave American farmers, among the president’s biggest supporters, in a bit of an odd position. Last time I was Stateside, farmers I met were telling me they wanted the government to get out of the way (I kept my mouth shut about what we have to deal with here) so they could get on with farming.
Those same farmers are now having to get money from that same government who they voted for on promises of less regulation.
