The Department of Agriculture is looking for an Irish candidate to go for the job of director general of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN.

It’s a massive job attracting a nice pay packet – north of €200,000, plus allowances. The position will be filled by election in June of next year, but applications are sought now for Ireland’s candidate.

Will Phil Hogan make a comeback or could Ireland’s former man at the UN Longford’s Paul Kiernan go for it?
