Sitting in the back of the audience at Dairy Day on Saturday with one ear on the panel of co-op chairs and one eye on Martbids on my phone I was surprised to hear Edward Carr say the co-op he chairs is now called ArraTipp.
I did a little digging, and sure enough, there’s ArraTipp, with the motto “Together we grow” – an odd choice considering ArraTipp is an anagram of “rip apart”.
Joking aside, I do think that they missed a trick by keeping the Tipperary part of the name – yes, it harks back to the history of the co-op, but to my ear, ArraTipp does sound like gentle admonishment of Tipp following a disappointing sporting performance (not that they had one this year) rather than a leading global supplier of dairy products.

Perhaps it should have cast its geographical net wider and used the name of a landmark that covers the length of the county – the river Suir.
It could use “it’ll be grand” as the motto. Afterall, there’s no greater reassurance in this country than ArraSuir, it’ll be grand.
