Farmers have been dealing with severe weather issues again this summer. As Daniel McPartlin reports on page 12, parts of the west received more rain in one day in August than parts of the east received in the entire month.
Cattle – both beef and dairy – are housed in several places west of the Shannon. Having cattle housed and feeding silage in August and September is not where any farmer needs to be and this is taking its toll on the mood and mental health of farmers.
The harvest has been problematic in many places. It is important not to be despondent about it all. There is help out there to get you through any difficult times. Talking to a neighbouring farmer about how to work through any farming problems can often be of great help.
