Nutrient Management Plans (NMPs) are likely to be a “cornerstone” of future schemes for Irish farms.
Speaking on the Irish Farmers Journal podcast, Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed said that his Department was at a “very advanced” stage of developing future schemes and that action would be necessary at individual farm level.
He said, in his view, NMPs would form part of schemes and help to maximise soil productivity. Farms with a nitrates derogation already are required to have an NMP and reduced fertiliser use has been highlighted in the European Commission Farm to Fork strategy.
