Plenty of interest for 106 acres in west Cork

Anything over 100 acres is sure to attract attention and with the demand for large holdings in Cork of late, this property is expected to prick the ears around the county, and indeed further afield.

Located at Ballincolla, Union Hall in west Cork, this non-residential holding has just hit the market in the last three weeks. Surrounded by the picturesque countryside and seaside of Union Hall, its location is proving popular, according to the auctioneer handling the sale, Charles McCarthy.

The lands itself is regarded as fertile, according to McCarthy, and are situated on a gently sloping hill. Three-quarters of the land is good grazing ground with the balance seen as somewhat marginal. Parts of the land have been reclaimed in recent years and there is potential for more work to be carried out.

The land has been dramatically improved over the last decade, with a new owner managing the ground very well. The land is well fenced and has a natural water supply. Currently it is been used for grazing and has cattle on it for the last number of years.

All in one block, its location has sparked interest from local farmers as well as people from outside Cork and indeed Ireland. There is also a new private entrance acquired and an internal road network has been laid through the farm. This has increased the practicality of the holding.

The farm also contains farm buildings which are located in a secluded part of the farm and set among mature trees. There is a fresh water lake on the western end of the property.

Guided at €900,000 or just under €8,500/acre, the holding is being sold by private treaty.

Auctioneer Charles McCarthy told Irish Country Living that the land is showing positive early signs of being moved.

“It is rare that a farm of this quality and size comes to the market in west Cork with private and direct access to Glandore Harbour.

“It is certainly the best investment I have seen around the area in quite a while,” McCarthy said.
