Teagasc is to hold a tillage event in the fields at the end of June.

The event will run from 29 June to 1 July at the Teagasc Crops Research Centre in Oak Park, Carlow, and, as would be expected, will be run differently to the usual crops event held every two years.

Full public health guidelines will be adhered to.

The event will be pre-registration only to keep numbers under control.

Designated time slots

In a statement this morning, Teagasc said: "This will allow us to accommodate individual groups of up to 14 attendees, at designated time slots through each of the three days."

The small number in each group will allow for social distancing in the fields.

The content will be the same over the course of the three days and will include research updates on a range of crops including winter and spring barley, winter wheat, oats, oilseed rape and beans.

Teagasc explained: "The crops research trial programme will be on view, with key topics presented at multiple information points across the Oak Park campus, covering up-to-date research and knowledge transfer activities on the primary issues affecting the tillage sector today."

Virtual crop walks

Up to now, Teagasc had held a host of virtual crop walks and webinars to keep farmers up to date.
