Farmers will take centre stage at the Irish Tillage and Land Use Society’s (ITLUS) winter conference.
The annual event takes place on Thursday 4 December at the Clanard Court Hotel, Athy, Co Kildare.
In the morning session, Teagasc’s Fiona Thorne will speak on the financial situation and outlook on tillage farms.
John Spink of Teagasc will present on the carbon footprint of Irish tillage products.
Markets
Managing director of Liffey Mills Pat Ryan will discuss the work undertaken by the company’s team of agronomists, nutritionists and feed specialists to deliver the company’s mission of producing superior quality products that maximise profit for their customers.
Farmer panel
After lunch, four farmers will give their perspectives. The first of those is Kevin Rosenbohm, all the way from Missouri in the United States, who sometimes contributes to the Irish Farmers Journal.
Andy Mahon, who is from Rathmines in Dublin, now manages the farm on the 800ha Bromborough Estate in England.
Will Stokes from Tipperary will talk about growing wheat, barley, oats, beans, peas and potatoes with his father Patrick.
Ollie Whyte from Co Dublin will chat on running a farm with 14 family members involved. Andy Doyle will also give an update from Tillage Industry Ireland.
There will be panel discussions before and after lunch, with time for questions.
The winners of the ITLUS bursaries for 2025 will also receive their awards in recognition of excellent performance in final-year cereal and crop classes.
