Suckler sale at Clogher Mart

A special sale of in-calf suckler cows and heifers from the herd of Stephen Maguire, Maguiresbridge, will be held in Clogher Mart on Thursday 5 December starting at 7pm.

Stephen participated in the first two phases of the NI Suckler Beef Programme from 2011 to 2016, and is dispersing the herd to concentrate on a new calf-rearing enterprise.

In total, 50 cows and eight replacement heifers will be offered for sale, with all animals scanned in-calf, and calving from 20 February to early April.

Cows are predominantly Limousin and Simmental bred and in-calf to the herd’s two stock sires, Ballykelly Canat, a Limousin bull bred from Tanat Mostyn, and Hollymount Iceman Sam, a Simmental bull sired by Kilbride Farm, Newry.

Heifers are settled in-calf to two AI sires, Whitebog Convenor (Salers) and Emslies Gallileo (Limousin).

Strong Hereford entry for Dungannon

A selection of both male and female Herefords will be on offer on Tuesday 3 December at the Native Breeds sale in Dungannon.

The bull consignment consists of 13 animals ready for work, with a number featuring successfully in the summer show season and supported by strong estimated breeding values (EBVs).

The bulls with top performing EBVs will be eligible for the Superior Carcass Sire incentive, which earns a cash rebate from the Hereford Cattle Society.

The female entry comprises young heifers from the Blackwater Herd owned by Nigel Heatrick and from Fred Kerridge’s Boghill herd at Templepatrick.

Judging of the classes will begin at 11am and the sale will follow at 1pm.

Catalogues can be viewed on www.herefordcattle.org.
