The 16th president of the IFA will be elected at the Castleknock Hotel today, Tuesday 17 December.

Counting will begin in the morning for a successor to Joe Healy, as the IFA elections for 2019 come to a close.

Voting ended on Friday last, with over 940 branches turning out to vote in the elections. Some 72,000 members were eligible to vote.

The results of four elections - those of president, deputy president and Connacht and Munster chairs - will be revealed.

Who’s running?

There are three candidates in the IFA presidential election; John Coughlan, Tim Cullinan and Angus Woods.

There are two candidates running for the position of deputy president; Thomas Cooney and Brian Rushe.

There are two candidates running for the position of Connacht regional chair; John Hanley and Pat Murphy.

There are three candidates running for the Munster regional chair position; Willie Hanrahan, Harold Kingston and Pat O’Driscoll.

How does the counting work?

Counting will start at around 9.15am at the count centre in the Castleknock Hotel, Dublin.
