Wicklow-based export company Roundwood Park Livestock continues to book in cattle for its first shipment to Algeria.

It is assembling the order via marts and farmer groups, including the Emerald Isle Beef Producers (EIBP) organisation.

The prices on offer are in the range of €1.80/kg to €2.20/kg liveweight depending on breed, according to a text EIBP sent to its members.

The quote for continental breeds is €1.90/kg to €2.20/kg; €1.70/kg to €1.80/kg for Friesian-cross continentals, €1.80/kg to €2.00/kg for Hereford and €1.80/kg to €2.00/kg for Angus.

Cattle must be R grade or better, the weight range is 500kg to 1,000kg and the age limit 30 months. Cattle will be weighed at the ship prior to loading.

The first consignment will have up to 1,200 cattle and is due to depart in early April.
