Glanbia farmers continue to hear stories of potential milk pricing or policy changes given the recent milk volume increases.

Industry sources suggest there will be a 2c/l charge on new milk or a €100 fee per 5,000-litre cow.

It has also been suggested that all new entrants will have to be individually approved by the Glanbia board.

Some speculation suggests there will be a reference year on milk supply, that could be 2019, with extra milk supplied over and above this charged at 2c/l or at an alternative milk price.

In Glanbia, there have been 219 new entrants and milk supply is up over 1bn litres since 2014. However, 285 farmers also left milk production. Over 95% of the new milk has come from existing suppliers.

The Glanbia policy on new entrants is under review and will be completed before the start of 2020.
