Last week’s sale at Clogher Mart saw another large entry of over 1,100 cattle go under the hammer. Demand was said to be steady on the day and prices were firm in all sections.

On the fatstock side, beef cows and cow heifers sold to £1.67/kg for a top quality 690kg cow. The top 20 in terms of price sold for £1.55/kg, on average. Other quality lots sold from £1.26/kg to £1.48/kg. Second quality lots sold from £1.00/kg to £1.24/kg.

Good quality, well-fleshed Friesian cows sold from £1.04/kg to £1.12/kg. Plainer lots sold from £0.78/kg to £0.98/kg, while poor quality lots made from £0.56/kg to £0.72/kg.

There was a small entry of fat bulls for sale on the day also. They sold from £0.97/kg for a Charolais to £1.35/kg for a 1,080kg Charolais.

Fat, overage steers sold from £1.24/kg for a 530kg Friesian to £1.83/kg for a good quality 630kg Limousin. Underage fat steers made from £1.57/kg to £1.87/kg for a 560kg Limousin.

Underage fat heifers were a solid trade also and made from £1.60/kg for a 660kg Limousin to £1.89/kg for a 610kg Charolais.

There was keen demand for store bullocks with, prices of up to £1,300 for a 740kg bullock. Other stores made from £1,100 for 620kg upwards. Lighter types sold from £830 for 410kg up to £1,000 for 470kg. Light stores made from £525 for 290kg to £835 for 370kg. Middleweight store heifers sold from £890 for 490kg to £1,030 for 470kg.
