The Irish Meteorological Service, Met Éireann, has released the new storm names for 2022/23, and some traditional Irish names have made the cut.

Ruadhán, Cillian and Íde are among the Irish names that have been included in the list of upcoming storms.

Met Éireann works in conjunction with the Met Office in the UK and the KNMI in the Netherlands to choose names for storm season each year.

The list also includes popular British names such as Sam and Mark, as well as Dutch names like Hendrika and Wouter.

The names are selected from ideas submitted by the public to each weather service. Met Éireann and the Met Office have been working together to choose storm names since 2014, while the KNMI joined in 2019.
