In the last few years, Turkish tractor manufacturing companies have been gaining traction in the Irish market, with brands such as Hattat, Tumosan and Armatrac becoming familiar.
Basak is the latest name to hit western European markets. The company has been manufacturing tractors since the 1960s, originally under a Ford licensing arrangement.
In the late 1970s it moved to building Steyr-branded models and eventually manufactured its own branded machines in 1996.
The 5120 set to be at the ploughing will be fitted with a Dromone pickup hitch.
Basak’s manufacturing facility is located in the Turkish province of Sakarya. The company’s production facility covers an area of 40,000m² on a site of 275,000m². Production capacity is in the region of 10,000 units annually, with main components such as engines, transmission and hydraulics all being produced in-house.
Basak’s tractors have recently been fitted with cleaner engines, meaning its tractors can now be sold on European markets.
The 5120 sees a multi-controller joystick and three manual spool valves.
Set to take centre stage at this year’s Ploughing is the flagship 5120 model. The 125hp tractor is fitted with a 3.6l four-cylinder Deutz engine, meeting Stage IV engine emission standards.
The tractor comes as standard with a ZF powershift transmission offering 32F x 32R speeds. Maximum lift capacity is 5.5t from the Bosch Rexroth hydraulic system.
Flagship offering
Four PTO speeds are offered in the 5120, 540, 540 economy, 1000 and 1000 economy models. The flagship offering comes with air conditioning and air brakes. Models coming into Ireland will be fitted with well-known Dromone pickup hitches.
As standard, the range-topping 5120 comes fitted with 380/70 R28 front tyres and 420/85 R38 rear tyres. According to a spokesperson for the company, the 5120 is compliant with latest Tractor Mother Regulations (TMR).
The 5120 appears to have a well laid out cab.
The 5120 won’t be alone on the stand. Basak is also showcasing two other tractors, its 110hp 2110 model fitted with a Perkins engine and a 48hp 2047 Eco orchard tractor fitted with a Sonalika engine. In addition to its tractors, the company will also display a one of its telehandler range.
The model will have a reach capacity of 9.5m, fitted with a Perkins engine and Bosch transmission.
