Camera at the mart attended the weekly cattle sale at Clogher Mart on Saturday last. Weather conditions impacted on sale numbers, with fewer cattle coming under the hammer in comparison to previous weeks.
However, a smaller entry had a positive effect on sale prices with a sharper edge to bidding and firm prices on good quality cattle.
Mart manager Harrison Boyd commented on the sale, saying there was solid demand across all cattle types resulting in a steady sale.
He added that store heifers and bullocks in particular were a firm trade, along with exceptionally strong buying demand on continental weanlings.
In the bullock ring, prices reached a peak of £1,570 for a 900kg Charolais followed by £1,365 paid on two occasions, once for an 805kg Limousin and again for an 825kg Belgian Blue animal.
Other noted prices saw a 730kg Hereford bullock selling to £1,200 with a 740kg Charolais making £1,285.
Bullocks weighing 600kg to 700kg sold from £1,100 to £1,330 for a 670kg Limousin with upwards from £955 paid on cattle weighing over 500kg.
Lighter types weighing 400kg to 500kg sold from £700 for a 410kg Simmental rising to £950 for a 490kg Aberdeen Angus animal.
Shorthorn bullocks weighing 480kg sold to £920 with a 490kg Charolais making £900. Lighter types sold to £815 for a 375kg Limousin.
In the heifer ring, prices peaked at £1,285 for a 640kg Charolais with a 590kg Limousin animal making £1,240.
