A total of 1,267 cattle were offered for sale at Clogher Mart this week and there was firm demand for all classes of stock. As in previous weeks, there was a strong presence of farmers buying, as well as agents for finishing units.

In the store ring, another large entry of 324 bullocks came under the hammer. The trade reached a top price of £1,375 for a 670kg animal. Heavy bullocks weighing 620kg to 690kg sold from £1,245 up to £1,350 (£1.95/kg to £2.05/kg). Mid-weight store bullocks weighing 410kg to 480kg sold from £885 up to £1,080 per head (£2.10/kg to £2.25/kg).

A smaller entry of store heifers saw a brisk trade, with fleshed heifers weighing 550kg to 630kg selling from £1,040 up to £1,280 per head (£1.89/kg to £2.03/kg). Heifers weighing 410kg to 500kg sold from £880 to £1,040 per head (£2/kg to £2.10/kg).

There was steady demand for weanlings with bulls selling to £925 for a 460kg animal. Weanlings weighing 340kg to 440kg sold from £780 up to £880 per head. Heifer weanlings weighing 290kg to 350kg sold from £600 to £780 per head.

Cows with calves at foot sold from £1,100 up to £2,000, with continental breeds attracting stronger prices over dairy-cross cows. In-calf cows and heifers sold from £960 to £1,100. Calves sold from £280 up to £565 for two-month-old reared animals.
