Calf numbers continue to increase quickly, with mart managers recording large increases in the past week.

The biggest increase in numbers has been seen in Friesian bull calves. The majority of those on offer are two- to three-week-old bulls which sold for €55/head on average, while the average bull made just shy of €60/head.

Calves over four weeks of age sold for €70/head on average, which is about €15/head more than two-week-old calves.

The number of Angus and Hereford calves on offer has increased slightly again, with over 400 sales recorded on the ICBF system.

The average Angus heifer is selling for €141/head, while bulls are making €198/head. Herefords are making about €20/head more than Angus.

There are only small numbers of continental calves on offer, but these are a very strong trade.
