Last Tuesady’s sale at Enniscorthy Mart saw another strong entry of nearly 300 cattle on offer. The supply of top-quality heavy fleshed bullocks and heifers was tight, but demand and prices were strong.

Good-quality U grade bullocks over 600kg sold from €500 to €600 along with the weight, while heifers in the same weight range sold from €500 to €650 over the weight.

Forward store bullocks from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €1.85/kg to €2.00/kg for average-quality types, with U grades making over €2.10/kg.

Demand for store heifers was said to be quite strong also, with farmers and feeders active. Good-quality heifers were less plentiful, which helped prices of top quality lots. Heifers from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €2.00/kg to €2.10kg, with top-quality types making over €2.20/kg.

There were more plainer quality cattle on offer and prices for these ranged from €1.80/kg to €1.90/kg.

Store heifers from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from €1.85/kg to €2.00/kg for average quality types. Top-quality types made from €2.00/kg to €2.20/kg.

Commission rates are €9 to the buyers and 1.25% to the seller.
