The property will be quarantined with the flock culled, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Some 16 states in the US have reported cases of bird flu since December. More than 32m birds have been affected.

“Unfortunately, Nebraska has joined a long list of states currently dealing with highly pathogenic avian influenza,” said director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, Greg Ibach. "The goal is to quarantine the flock and attempt to control and contain the virus as quickly as possible.”

Last week, Iowa declared a state of emergency due to the outbreak, which could lead to the culling of 20m birds. Wisconsin and Minnesota have also declared a state of emergency.
