Her remains were found during a search by gardaí, the Civil Defence and members of the public near the Dublin hospital where she was last seen. Hundreds of people participated in the search.

Her son Aylmer, a farmer from Cappagh, Co Limerick, had launched a campaign to find his mother. Speaking to the Farmers Journal, he described her as a "friendly and chatty" woman.

Originally from Roscrea, Marian was last seen at 9am on Monday morning. She was a low risk patient at an open psychiatric ward.

The discovery was made shortly after lunch. Her remains have been taken to Blanchardstown Hospital.
