Stronger calves more suitable to grass farmer buyers were very much in evidence among the pens. There also seemed to be a larger proportion of beef cross calves visible today.

Prices were similar to last week. Friesian bull calves sold from €50 to €120 for shipping type calves while stronger calves were picked up by farmers and these made up to €200. Friesian heifers were available from €159 to €280.

Prices for Hereford and Angus bull calves made from €200 to €370 and Hereford and Angus Heifer calves prices ranged from €180 to €340. Continental bull calf prices ranged from €310 to €480 while continental heifers sold from €280 up to €455.

Dry cows continue to come out with short of 100 on offer. These met strong demand yet prices were back slightly on last week. Cows made from €40 to €620 over the euro/kg. As ever heavy well fleshed cows and younger cows were much sought after.
