Reporting on Monday evening’s sheep trade in Elphin mart, manager Gerry Connellan said there was a much livelier trade for fleshed lambs with prices rising by €2 to €4 per head. Gerry said it was the first sale in several weeks where factory agents were anxious to purchase higher numbers.
Fleshed lambs weighing 50kg to 55kg sold on average from €96 to €100 with a few lots of heavier top-quality sheep purchased by butchers and rising to €103 to €104. Lambs lacking flesh sold for €5 to €6 lower for comparable weights while store lambs weighing 40kg to 43kg sold from €80 to €86 on average or from €1.90/kg to €2.05/kg.
