Pressure on beef prices, particularly for cull cows in the past month to six weeks, has lead to a sharp reduction in cull cow prices at marts around the country. The easing of brucellosis has increased cow numbers at nearly all marts and resulted in increased factory agent competition at the ringside.

The easing of brucellosis has increased cow numbers at nearly all marts and resulted in increased factory agent competition at the ringside.
However, over the past few weeks, the price paid for feeding and store cows has eased by 20c to 30c/kg or €120 to €200/head depending on the cow type.
The beef price and the time of year have been two major drivers of this.
Continental feeding cows are selling mainly from €1.50/kg to €1.70/kg, while only good-quality slaughter-fit types are achieving prices of €1.90/kg to €1.95/kg.
