Dairygold’s planned new €60m cheese plant at Mogeely is to be referred to An Bord Pleanála.
Planning permission was granted by Cork County Council for the development in mid-August but this was appealed to An Bord Pleanála by a group of local residents.
“We anticipate a decision on the application from An Bord Pleanála early in the New Year,” a spokeswoman for Dairygold told the Irish Farmers Journal.
The proposed development on behalf of Dairygold’s partner TINE, Norway’s largest farmer-owned dairy co-operative, would see 10,000t of Jarlsberg cheese produced at Mogeely.
