Surveying over 280 organisations, the Compliance Institute found that seven in 10 employers are planning for their employees to split their time between remote and office work.

Over two thirds (67%) of organisations said that employees working from home still need to be in the office at least one day a week, with 53% saying employees need to attend the office two to three days a week.

Of those organisations surveyed, 16% had not formalised the working arrangements for 2022.

Work from home

The survey also found that three in 10 employers will allow their employers to work from anywhere in the country with 28% of respondents open to this arrangement provided employees are able to commute to the office when needed.

Only a small percentage (5%) of employers say that they would allow employees to work from outside of Ireland.

Some companies (38%) have yet to decide from where their employees will work, or will deal with the situation on a case-by-case basis. Online meetings and conferences will most likely continue to be utilised by the majority of employers.

CEO of the Compliance Institute Michael Kavanagh says: “The start of 2022 is looking likely to be something of a trial period for many organisations as they figure out the best way to accommodate their staff’s changed situations, needs, and preferences.

“The pandemic has changed many people’s living/work situation as well as their goals and ambitions,” he adds, “and so patience and communication will be required by both employers and employees to figure out workable solutions and compromises in the months ahead.”
