Farmhand has been distributing Krone machinery in Ireland for over 50 years. Krone, one of the biggest and most dynamic machinery makers in the world, is still very much family owned and managed.

Farmhand will have a number of new machines in action at the FTMTA Grass & Muck event at Gurteen College on 14 May. These include the new Krone Comprima Xtreme round baler, R-series mowers and ZX silage wagons. Farmhand’s parts division, Fastparts, will be demonstrating the Rakeman grass harrow.

The new Krone Comprima Xtreme baler features a faster pick-up, a faster rotor and elevator speeds. There is a heavier driveline and components, as well as a reinforced NovoGrip belt and slat elevator.

“The Xtreme is designed for high-end contractors doing a large amount of baling where output is at a premium,” according to Farmhand sales director David Borland.

All Krone Comprima Xtreme balers can make bales from 4ft up to 5ft in diameter and all are equipped with hydraulic brakes, which customers particularly appreciate in hilly terrain.

Farmhand claims that the new front-and rear-mounted R-series mowers have been a big hit in what is their first commercial year. They feature a heavier headstock, upgraded driveline and lockout conditioner tines (to minimise wear).

Another feature of the new Krone mowers is that in addition to the SafeCut stone protection (an ingenious shearbolt system in the hubs) they also have SmartCut.

This means that you can change the direction of any of the discs to alter the swathing or eliminate occasional uncut strips in certain conditions.

Wagon debut

Making its Irish debut through Farmhand is Krone’s flagship ZX silage wagon series, which will also be in action at Gurteen. The extra heavy duty build of this machine is designed for the top professional users, featuring gear-drive and extra strong cutting mechanism.

Like its popular MX stablemate, the ZX has hydraulic levelling suspension, a feature unique to Krone, which it claims is ideal for fast, safe and smooth passage over fields and roadways.

Fastparts, the fast-moving parts division of Farmhand, will be showing the Rakeman grass harrow in action. Launched less than a year ago and manufactured in Ireland, the Rakeman has proven very popular with farmers who want to improve and maintain the quality of their grassland at an economical cost. The 3m-wide machine retails for less than €3,000, including VAT.
