Dairygold has introduced a €6/t feed rebate across mainline ruminant compound feeds to support its members.

The rebate comes on the back of early housing in many areas, with a Dairygold spokesperson adding that this is adding additional costs to beef and dairy farms.

The rebate is available to beef, sheep and dairy farmers from 1 November until 31 December 2019.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the rebate is also on the back of the current market difficulties facing beef farmers.

Base prices remain at the €3.45/kg mark and all farmers are being affected by the oversupply of cattle.

As the weather deteriorates and more cattle are housed, feed costs are rising and pressure on shed space is growing.

Housing

Farmers housing cattle this week or with cattle already housed can calculate their fodder supply and demand on the Irish Farmers Journal fodder calculator.

It includes calculations for dairy cows, suckler cows, in-calf heifers, weanlings, store cattle, finishers and sheep.
