The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan, T.D. extended the reprieve for electric cars in last week’s budget. He said that the Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) reliefs available for the purchase of hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles, and electric motorcycles are being extended to 31 December 2016. This can mean significant savings without which the cost of buying an electric car would be prohibitive.
The Nissan Leaf remains the top selling electric car is Europe and Ireland, selling more than double the volume of all pure electric car competitors. The Leaf had record sales across Europe in the month of September.
