BWG Group, the owner of the Spar and Londis convenience stores in Ireland, has agreed a deal to buy Heaney Meats for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Galway city, Heaney Meats is a butchery and catering company built up by Shayne and Kenneth Heaney. The company employs about 75 staff.

Heaney Meats specialises in the butchering and distribution of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and venison for retail and catering customers throughout Ireland.

The company had sales of €21.8m in 2018, which was up 10% on the prior year

The company also supplies cooked meat products to customers.

For its financial year ending August 2018, Heaney Meats reported operating profits of just under €1m, which was a 29% increase on the previous year.

Pre-tax profits in the business jumped by almost a third (+32%) for 2018 to reach just over €966,000.

BWG Group has an annual turnover of €1.5bn and recently acquired Galway-based Corrib Foods and the Laois foodservice business 4 Aces Wholesale.
