Sean Dennehy from Carrigadrohid, Co Cork, was first elected as chair of the sheep committee. He was previously vice-chair of the committee and represents Cork central IFA. Dennehy replaces outgoing sheep chair John Lynskey.
Dairy chair
The dairy committee then elected Tom Phelan from Co Laois (right) as its chair. He, too, was previously vice-chair of his committee.
Phelan succeeds outgoing dairy chair Sean O’Leary, who was nominated to run for national treasurer/returning officer earlier in the day. That election will take place at next week’s IFA AGM.
Hill chair
Flor McCarthy (left) from Co Kerry has been elected the new chair of the IFA National Hill Committee, and takes over the role from outgoing chair Pat Dunne.
The Kenmare native previously held a role as the IFA Rural Development Chair and stood for election against current IFA president Joe Healy in the organisation’s last election.
He also held the position of IFA Kerry, County Chairman from 2000 to 2004.
McCarthy runs a farm enterprise based in Kerry and Cork, and keeps a herd of Charolais cattle and up to 500 sheep.
Potato chair
Thomas McKeown is on the far left.
Thomas McKeown has been elected to take over from Eddie Doyle as IFA Potato Committee Chairman.
McKeown previously held the position as county chair of the Meath Potato Committee and he runs a tillage farm in the county.
