Outside of Friesian calves, Herefords dominated the numbers at Bandon Mart on Monday, with a few more on offer than Angus-crosses.

Traditional beef-bred-cross bull calves sold for between €210 and €430, with heifers of these breeds selling for between €200 and €380.

Friesian bull calves made between €90 and €160 for export-type calves, with stronger calves making up to €240.

Continentals were scarce, with heifers selling for up to €430 and continental bulls up to €450.

The stand-outs of the sale were a group of 13 Charolais-cross calves, with bulls averaging €450 and the heifers making €401

Dry cows

In the dry cow sale, fleshed cows were in shorter supply and cows with good fat cover made between €200 and €400 over the €/kg.

Feeder cows were far more plentiful and were making closer to €100 with their weight, with most of the 140 cows on offer making from €0.95/kg to €1.25/kg.
